Variety has a story on Howard Stringer, Sony’s chairman and CEO. Some have linked to this story thinking it confirms the PlayStation 3 delay; it doesn’t, but who cares. We know the system isn’t coming out until Novemberish.
But the story has some telling comments on Blu-Ray: “For Sony, the stakes of the rivalry are colossal. … Some believe Stringer is betting the company on Blu-ray.” This is the second time recently we’ve heard the “betting the company” sentiment. Maybe the story is just referencing an earlier story, but this idea seems to be gaining strength. I’m certainly becoming more convinced that there’s some truth behind it.
And that’s very bad news for Sony.
